Playing Golf In Any Weather
Most people believe that in order to play golf, you need good weather. After all, if you watch any golf event on television everyone you see is usually in short sleeves and looks quite comfortable. Since this is an outdoor sport, without a huge amount of exertion to heat you up, it makes perfect sense to play when the weather is milk. But less than ideal weather does not always mean that you should not play.
If you are considering a golf vacation and want to cut costs, you might want to consider traveling during the off-seasons. There are many golf courses that accommodate game play during autumn and winter. Since the bulk of the golfing population likes to play when the weather is pleasant, t-times can be in high demand. And when demand is high, prices tend to be high too. Off-season golf means that more t-times are available, and often that is reflected in a lower price.
There is an additional advantage to playing off season. In addition to cost savings, there is a time savings as well. There are many fewer people on the course which means that there will be fewer people holding you up, and fewer people who want to play through because you are holding them up. Most people find that playing golf at your own pace is a much more enjoyable pastime.
You are also much more likely to be able to improve your game if you play during inclement weather. The weather itself can act as a hazard. Learning to overcome wind conditions is an important part of golf.
If you like being outdoors in winter, golf may no longer be out of your reach. Many courses are open year round. The two things you will need most are adequate winter wear, in layers so you can add or remove clothing as you need to, and fluorescent golf balls. Fluorescent golf balls allow you to find your ball in the snow and therefore make playing in the snow a possibility.
Night time play is also a good way to get on the course with fewer people and for less money. Some manufacturers make glow-in-the-dark golf balls which allow for night play, provided the course is at least somewhat lighted. There are also gadgets that help you locate your ball, this can be quite useful for night time play.
Of course, if you do decide to play during inclement weather it is important to consider the conditions you will be golfing in and prepare accordingly. If you will be playing during cold weather make sure to dress appropriately. Bring gloves and a hat, and wear layers. If you will be golfing at night, it is a good idea to bring along a flashlight. If you are playing in the rain, an umbrella can come in handy. Just make sure to get off the course if there is the slightest hint of a thunderstorm.
Playing golf during any season can be quite fun. If you cannot live without playing a few holes, you can usually play year round. By playing when the weather is less than ideal you can expect to improve your overall game, and save some money while you are at it.
